Chicago Grammar School is a testing site for Northwestern University’s Midwest Academic Talent Search (NUMATS), a research-validated program that utilizes above-grade-level assessment, as a means of gifted testing, to help parents and educators better understand their students’ educational needs. NUMATS allows eligible students to take internationally recognized tests before the grade levels at which they are normally administered. Cradles to Crayons Service Project

CGS Student Council chose to work with  Cradles to Crayons as a school service project to help children in need.   They've initiated a toy drive and CGS families are rallying to provide new and gently used toys. The students (with some parents and teachers) will work at the Cradles to Crayons warehouse.  They’ll sort, clean and organize donated items for children who need clothing, toys, coats, boots, and more.  They will also make hand-written “Well Wish Note” with a message for each…

The annual CGS trip to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater is a student and teacher favorite.  This year they are attending a production of The Comedy of Errors. CGS seeks to repeat success, having won the Illinois Certamen League Junior High Division – Chicagoland Region for five out of the past six years.  Certamen, meaning “contest” in Latin, exists at the junior high, high school and collegiate levels and is regarded as a Latin Quiz Bowl. Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday established to honor the Presidents of the United States.  Well…. not really.  The official federal holiday is actually Washington’s Birthday, to be celebrated, according to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, on the third Monday in February.  (As an aside, it’s a bit ironic since his birthday is February 22nd and the third Monday can never be later than the 21st!)
