Students get a sense of the grandeur of the Ancient Near East as they visit the Oriental Institute.  They have been immersed in the Ancient World.  They’ve read and acted out stories from Gilgamesh; they’ve studied Ancient Egypt, depicted themselves as pharaohs, and experienced mummification first hand with pork cutlets (the great King Porkenhaten!)  At the Oriental Institute, they engage in a scavenger hunt for artifacts from Sumer, sketch the  bas-reliefs from the royal Assyrian throne rooms, and thoroughly enjoy the Egyptian mummies.
