Certamen Regional Champions Again!

Congratulations to the CGS Latin Team! The Chicago Grammar School team clinched first place in the 2017-2018 Illinois Certamen League Junior High Division – Chicagoland Region, defeating Latin, Whitney Young and TEACH over three rounds of play over the last several months. Certamen, meaning “contest” in Latin, exists at the junior high, high school and collegiate levels and is regarded as a Latin Quiz Bowl. Teams of four players compete head to head answering questions about the Latin language (grammar, vocabulary, usage), Roman culture, history, and literature, and Greek and Roman mythology. The state of Illinois is divided up into regions; winners of each region battle for the State Championship.  At the finals, the CGS team placed third in Illinois, earning the highest score to date for CGS at State level competition.
