The CGS Crest
It began with a motto. In keeping with having a classical curriculum and teaching Latin beginning in the third grade, we chose Sapere Aude, which means “Dare to Know”. We want the children to be confident learners and not be shy about exhibiting and using their knowledge. Staying with the theme of courage, the Lion seemed a natural choice. It also provides a fantastic team name, the CGS Lions, that we can use for sports and competitions. Along similar lines, Pillars signify Constancy, Torches indicate Zeal and Serpents symbolize Wisdom. Finally, the Leaves surrounding the crest stand for Strong and Lasting Friendships. And a Book? Well, that speaks for itself!
