Founder, Phillip D. Jackson II

Phillip Jackson"I opened the Chicago Grammar School in 2005 to offer the option of a classical liberal arts education at the elementary level. I used a classical curriculum due to its depth and variety of content, systematic sequence, and integration of subject matter. Prior to opening CGS, I was Executive Director of The Cove School in Northbrook, IL, where I became steeped in the research of how to teach students with impaired processing abilities. Much of the research proved valuable for all students. Methods for teaching the disabled student are often good and thoughtful methods for the typical student. I wanted to bring these thoughtful methods to serve the average and academically talented student population."

Phillip D. Jackson II has been working with parents, children and teachers since 1981. He started his career as Dean of Students and teacher of history at Hardey Preparatory School for Boys. After a few years as a banking Vice President, he returned to education, first as a business/finance manager, and then as Executive Director of the Cove School.

Mr. Jackson has a B.A. in Music Theory from DePaul University in Chicago and a Masters in the Art of Teaching from The University of Illinois at Chicago; and has also completed numerous courses in accounting, audit, taxation and business law from Loyola University in Chicago. He has administrative certification as well as teaching certification, which includes an endorsement in learning disabilities, from the Illinois State Board of Education.

"Based on 30+ years of experience in education, I have developed strong, informed opinions on the purpose of education and have learned a wide variety of means to deliver the service. On a more personal note, as a father of a young son, I am also driven to provide the best education for my child and the children of other like-minded parents."
