In recognition of the critical role technology plays in today’s world, and following the classical model of emphasizing the interrelatedness of knowledge, the CGS Technology Program is completely integrated into classroom instruction and activity. Starting in preschool, the children practice pre-math and pre-reading skills with a variety of interactive computer games. As they progress in the early elementary grades, the students begin keyboarding and practicing various software programs within the context of the topics they are studying. For example, a kindergarten student may hone auditory discrimination skills using Earobics, and second graders work through an interactive web program on Viking exploration. The children learn how to use technology as a means to investigate, gather information, communicate and present their ideas to others in written and visual form. In conjunction with the focus on problem solving and inquiry, the use of software tools provides our children with yet another means to create knowledge from experience. It is a natural complement to the work they do in writing, history and science.
